Minecraft Dome Generator
Turn outside width, depth and height in blocks into a hollow or filled roof blueprint. Build it one layer, row and segment at a time.
Build a Minecraft dome without losing your layer
VoxelCurve represents a dome as an upper ellipsoid. Width and depth set the footprint; height sets the roof profile. Each horizontal layer is broken into rows and exact block segments, so you can follow the plan without guessing where the next layer begins.
Hemisphere, low dome or tall dome
Use the hemisphere shortcut for a classic half-sphere, reduce height for a flatter roof, or increase it for a taller elliptical dome. Keep the footprint fixed when comparing heights so you can see how the roof changes.
Hollow domes are true shells
The hollow mode subtracts an inner ellipsoid from the outer structure instead of simply drawing a thin circle on every layer. That keeps the cap and upper layers structurally consistent. Use Filled when you need a solid volume and check its larger material total before gathering blocks.
Layer navigation
The guided builder tracks the current layer, row and segment. Complete a segment after placing it; VoxelCurve moves to the next instruction and saves progress in the current browser. Jumping to a different row or layer does not mark it complete.
How is this blueprint calculated?
A dome is the upper half of an ellipsoid sampled into blocks. Outside width and depth range from 3 to 256 blocks; height ranges from 2 to 256 and includes the bottom layer. Width and depth define the horizontal footprint, while height controls the vertical roof profile.
Layer sampling and hollow caps
For width W, depth D and height H, cx = (W − 1) / 2, cz = (D − 1) / 2, rx = W / 2, rz = D / 2 and ry = H − 0.5. Filled block centers satisfy ((x − cx) / rx)² + ((z − cz) / rz)² + (y / ry)² ≤ 1. Grid y starts at zero on the bottom layer; the displayed layer number is y + 1.
Thin and Thick remove an inner ellipsoid while retaining exposed side and cap cells; the base remains open inside. This creates a shell rather than stacking independent circle outlines. Narrow, tall shells retain connecting cells between layers. Even-width footprints can have an empty final sampled layer; the navigator skips empty layers and reports their actual height numbers.
Computed examples in blocks
| Outside dimensions | Thin blocks | Filled blocks |
|---|---|---|
| 15×15×8 | 321 | 984 |
| 31×31×16 | 1,353 | 8,132 |
| 3×3×16 | 76 | 88 |
What is included in the result?
Each occupied cell represents one block. Counts exclude scaffolding, temporary center markers and decorations; stack estimates use 64 blocks per stack. PNG and TXT are manual references for Java or Bedrock. A .litematic file is a schematic for compatible Java tools, not a WorldEdit .schem file or a Bedrock import.
PNG exports the currently selected layer, while TXT and Litematic include the full dome. Very large filled structures can exceed the browser's safe Litematic export limit; reduce dimensions or choose a hollow shell when that warning appears.
The formulas describe VoxelCurve's grid convention, not a universal Minecraft circle standard. Review the geometry specification and calculation source for boundary handling. Consult the upstream Litematica project for compatible mod versions.

Useful starting dimensions
These hemisphere-style presets use a one-block hollow shell. Open one directly, then adjust the dimensions if needed.
Minecraft dome guide: from footprint to roof
Build the bottom layer first, confirm its center and orientation, then advance upward one layer at a time. Follow each row's start offset and segment length, mark completed work and check the remaining materials before continuing.
Can the Minecraft dome maker plan an observatory roof?
Yes. Match the width and depth to the supporting walls, then choose a height that leaves enough room inside. Use a hollow shell for an open interior. For a round MC dome, keep width and depth equal.
How do I make a flatter roof?
Reduce the height while keeping the footprint fixed. A Minecraft dome creator resolves each smaller upper layer, so follow the generated rows instead of repeating the base outline at every height.
Does the tool build the roof in-game?
No. A “dome generator Minecraft” search leads to a roof plan, not an automatic building command. Place the blocks from the blueprint or use the optional Litematic file with a compatible Java tool.
Where should I start construction?
For a “Minecraft how to build a dome” walkthrough, start with the bottom layer and check it against your supporting walls. Then follow each layer's row segments upward. Complete and save your work after placement, and use the next-unfinished control to find where to resume.
